FISH & FARM
Making food with the best local produce.
Our nearby farm is set in hills above Boscastle, and our fishing boat is moored in the village's ancient harbour.
Our Land, Our Boat, Our Produce.
Our small day boat is kept in Boscastle’s picturesque natural harbour, where Chris Key, the restaurant owner’s father, catches lobster, mackerel, and pollack. Each day, he delivers the fresh catch straight to The Rocket Store, often popping in with an orange bucket in hand.
Chris fishes in the shallow waters, close to the harbour, ensuring minimal disturbance to the marine ecosystem. The natural harbour can experience extreme weather conditions, but Chris’ small boat and skilled methods allow him to work in harmony with the unpredictable tides and winds.

At The Rocket Store, we take pride in our commitment to responsible sourcing and traditional fishing methods. Our fishing practices are deeply rooted in sustainability and respect for the sea. Lobsters are never over-harvested, and any undersized lobsters or egg-carrying females are carefully returned to the ocean, preserving the lobster population.

We have a small scale, grass-fed sheep farm where we keep our carbon footprint minimal.
Cannegos is marginal land on around 60 acres with stony soil, on a steep hill and has been carefully managed by Harold and the Hancocks for generations. It is part pasture, thorny scrubland, and some woodland with a stream.
Grazing the sheep rotationally replicates ancient grassland and restores an important ancient habitat so that insects, birds and wildlife can thrive in harmony with livestock.
We also have an area of around 5000 trees we planted 5 years ago.
Since taking over the land, we have been trying to help wildlife flourish on a large scale, by practicing ‘nature friendly farming’, working closely with professionals to enhance soil health, bird species, and preserve the naturally occurring wildflowers and plants.
A mile up the road on the hills above Boscastle, our grass-fed sheep roam the coastal pastures, reared outdoors using naturally regenerative practices.

BOSCASTLE
Our restaurant sits on the approach to Boscastle harbour, in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, 50 metres from where the River Valency meets the sea. The 19th Century building was once used to house the coastguard’s horse-drawn rocket firing equipment, hence the name.
The North Cornwall village is known for its picturesque location and napoleonic-era harbour wall. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and the South West coast path passes along the cliffs through the village. This makes Boscastle an ideal place to come for a walk; and then rest, refresh and refuel at The Rocket Store.
The National Trust recommend a stunning circular walk exploring the cliffs above Boscastle’s medieval harbour passing The Rocket Store, before heading inland across the Valency Valley.
You can easily tailor this walk to start and end with a drink or nibble with us!
